It was my 42nd birthday last weekend. I was treated to a homemade dinner cooked by Jim and a special birthday cake made by Emily, Danielle, and Jackie.

Mangrove Tour

We took a trip to the Kalim Geoforest Park where we signed up for a boat tour through the mangrove. We explored a bat cave that contained hundreds of bats hanging from the ceiling amongst the stalactites. We also visited a fish farm where we were able to feed archer fish (even though they spat water at us) and we were able to pet a very friendly sting ray. Emily also held a tiger snail that was the size of a bowling ball.
We also observed a large group of eagles feeding along the waterway.

Beach Fun

The beach at our resort was popular with all of us, especially the girls. Danielle spent countless hours digging, building, and exploring and while Emily did this as well, she also spent some time posing for the camera.

Wedding Anniversary

Jackie and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary while we were in Langkawi. We were supposed to have a romantic dinner on the beach but it rained that particular evening so we had our special dinner on a covered patio.

Waterfall and the Seven Wells

From the suspension bridge we could see many small waterfalls coming down the adjacent peaks. One of the larger waterfalls created numerous pools along its way down and thus was named the "seven wells". We hiked up to the bottom well and had a dip in the natural pool that formed there. A family of monkeys came to visit us while we were there.

Cable Car and Suspension Bridge

We all took a trip out of the resort to see a suspension bridge that joined two peaks above Langkawi. To get to the peaks we first had to take a cable car to the top and then walk down slightly to the bridge. The peaks offered great views; from the first we could see the Langkawi Islands and from the second we could see Thailand.

Easter Break in Langkawi

The March break saw the four of us and Jim and June (Jackie's parents) travel to the island of Langkawi for some rest and relaxation. Langkawi is the largest of a group of 99 islands located off the north-west coast of Malaysia, just south of Thailand. It was a lush, tropical paradise that has remarkably avoided massive amounts of tourism and commercialization. The beaches were beautiful and very uncrowded. The Pelangi resort was located on the beach and we stayed in a traditional Malaysian wood structure that had all the things needed to keep us comfortable.

Grandparents Arrive in Macau

Jackie's parents arrived in Macau on March 18th for a three-week visit. After the long time in the air, Jim and June were glad to get to our apartment and see all of us. We all leave Saturday to Malaysia for a family beach vacation.

Canada Comes to Macau

I was fortunate to be invited to attend a Canadian golf event last Friday in Macau. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Macau hosted their annual golf event at the Macau Golf & Country Club. Canadian flags were hung all around the clubhouse as well on our golf carts making it a very special event indeed. My team finished at -12, just out of the prizes although I did win a door prize for a dinner in Hong Kong.
